Shamelessly stolen from another forum, but worth a look - some great pictures, and although I'm not a (modern) Rover fan, made me feel quite sad.....

Rover joins a very depressing list

Jaguar, Browns Lane.
Morris, Cowley.
Rootes (Peugeot) Ryton.
Ford, Dagenham
Vauxhall, Luton...

I'll let others carry this on

Am i the only person in the world who actually liked the look of the Rover 75? (the older one, with twin headlights). In a comic i'll eventually make, set in the 2060's in which people drive cars that look like they're from the 1960's, the "2001" Rover 75 will also be in production as an "alternative to the jukeboxes" XD

Yeah, I reckon it looks OK. There are a lot of "retro-look" cars that are poor caricatures of original designs (and this is coming from a BMW Mini owner....) which all seem a bit pointless, but I reckon the Rover 75 looks nice to my nostalgic eyes, without giving offence to any particular previous Rover model. Owning one of course might be a different matter....

Discuss....

heartbreaking! truly heartbreaking, when you see the overalls and the tea in the kitchen and the half finished cars on the line it makes you think that the last guy to use those things or work on that car and leaving thinking i will finish that later and never got the chance....
brings a tear to your eye.
as far as the 75 goes i have allways liked them, i remember getting a sneaky look at a sky blue 3 litre behind the rover museum in the midlands and feeling honoured to see it before it was launced they will be a classic and will be remembered as rovers last attempt to build a large luxury car.

wow..thats some atmosphere!
but...sorry guys..at the risk of starting a riot..they had it coming!
the product was rubbish..no propper new models..it was never going to be a going concern for long.the union led days of the seventies paid off pretty well eh?
just like the british motorcycle industry went..crap management..shoddy production..its very very sad we cant make cars anymore.
not all doom n gloom though..look what happend at triumph in hinckley (motorcycles)..new team..propper funding..they make some of the best bikes in the world at the mo.

as for the rover 75..groan..we sell ex lease cars at work..the rovers are a bloody nightmare..shocking build quality..nasty electrics..the best bit was the bmw diesel engine which is the only reason they sell at all now.

I used to be a fan of rovers..loved the p6 and the sd1 but the sd1 was again a badly built sham of a good design.
rip british car industry

Yes, the Triumph motorcycle example is a good one, YES YES YES!

I own one (a '94 Trophy 900) and it's a brilliant bike (for its age) and has been the most reliable and best-built machine of ANY KIND that I have ever owned, bar none. I've had it nearly 10 years BTW - was riding it today in fact!

Shows it can be done as you say. :)
