2CVGB knows of approximately 50 left in the UK...

Well, that's many more than I thought. So it's quite a good survivor then.

As it is a left hooker, maybe not quite so rare. How many are left in France and the rest of the continent?

I said this when they bought the Marina off eBay. If they want a specific hard-to-find car for something (i.e. smashing/burning), TG probably has enough funding to put a maximum bid of £10,000 on it, excluding even the most raving fanatic from buying it. It's not a level playing field, in other words.
..........unfortunately that's the way of the world. I love my guitars, but I could never afford a vintage Gretsch or something because they're usually snapped up by collectors who hang them on the wall and never play them, lots ot top end old cars are bought as investments and never driven, but that's the way it is and always will be- a real enthusiast rarely has the money to indulge themselves, rich collectors generally win out.

These cars they've just bought are in the easily affordable price range for someone who is a raving fanatic- there can't be that many people who want a lanchester and a grand seems pretty reasonable- it'd be interesting to know how many other people bid on it.

According to the Lynn News they are planning to drive them to Spain to take part in a Classic Rally. I didn't notice who else was bidding on the cars, but can say that Clarkson and Hammond both paid the lower guide price for their cars, the Sprite having a guide of £3500-£4000, and the Lanchester £1000-£1500. Only the Ami8 went for more than it's guide of £500-£700, and speaking to Ian Seabrook from CCW he felt the £1500 paid was about it's correct value (PC gives £1800 for Condition 1, and £700 for Cond.2)

Love the Avatar Bent8rover. Thats one of my favourite films....

It really annoys me when people moan about the BBC license fee. What is it now about £130 quid a year or something? So thats 30 odd pence per day per household. Thats got to be the best value in the world. We've got the best TV and Radio compared with foreign drivel and no adverts. Lets face it, the BBC is about the only thing UK Plc actually produces now that is world class. I don't like wasting my taxes on schools for other peoples kids but I have to put up with it.

The adverts are creeping in more and more though - BBC merchandising - grrrrr.

The Ami 8 has got to be worth £1200 just for rarity and usability alone. It's a wagon, not a Dyane hatchback or a plastic Bijou. It had 12 months MOT so it can't have been tooooo sheddy? I'm sure James can find the extra £300, and he'll probably polish it until the paint is a micron thin. I'd like to see him fit the old yellow headlight bulbs, for the hell of it.

Ther Lanchester sounds like an unknown quantity - even the website said 'condition 3'

Sprite was £3600 + commission fee, Ami was £1500 all-in

tbh i cant wait to see the cars on screen...either off to spain or having something daft done to them.

as for tg ruining every classic they touch i seem to remember plenty of articles about classics (mk2 escort, ferrari, charger etc) where they dont get trashed-everybody conveniently forgets those!

I note that none of the beige brigade seem to be biting at my point about ebay being awash with must save classics for peanuts...
unless there running around trying to organise a whip round to save that incredibly rare 1986 meastro in factory brown with matching mw radio.
